Writing my school essays at the moment, but thought I should take a break to update you on my exciting silver smithing class. My teacher was Victoria Delaney and I think I put up a link to her webpage in my last post, here it is again, she’s amazing and young (wasn’t expecting that after viewing her work and achievements).

It was a cosy class, we were supposed to be 3 students but Jack (who seems to be a serial defaulter) didn’t show. I shared the class with Angela, a retired teacher, who is also a student at a sculpture class. She is in the process of building a massive Red Indian head out of metal cans. She has attended some jewellery classes so she knew lot more about the processes, but I tried to soak up as much information as I could.

Our project was to create cufflinks out of a sterling silver sheet and chain, I decided I wanted mine to be amoeba shapes, instead of regular everyday shapes but during the course of cutting and shaping, Victoria decided mine looked more like clouds, so clouds they became!

Here are the pictures from the journey :), I don’t think I’ll be able to take this many again as it was quite distracting, but I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the class.

Finally got my camera, yipeeee!!!!!!…..bought a Canon instead of a Nikon, I was told that Nikon’s lenses are made by Sony and the Nikon I wanted was out of stock because the Sony factory in Thailand was destroyed by the flood. Oh well I love my Canon, and I got a package deal so it came with a Macro lens for my jewellery photography.

I’ve spent the last week or so learning how to use it, learning about aperture and shutter speed, ISO and Auto focus……I thought the camera would automatically take amazing pictures, but I’ve learnt the hard way that it has a lot to do with the Photographer. The camera only captures what you see.

Saw some amazing landscape pictures on a blog the apple of our eyes, it put anything I had to shame. I put up the picture above though, I took it while waiting for a train on the underground, what do you think?

Its 9 days to my silver smithing classes, I’m so excited, I can’t wait to take tons of pictures of the Jewellery Quater, where my classes would be holding. Being exposed to the experienced jeweller’s and smiths there, should help with my silver smithing and dissertation, which is on Intellectual property in the Jewellery Sector.

The topic is my way of merging my passion for jewellery with my Legal background, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I get enough information for my paper as it seems a pretty unperturbed sector. Anyone who has a lead on this or is interested in the topic should drop a comment, I’d love to hear your views.

In other news, I announced the winner of the Amethyst Necklace from Last weeks post on the Facebook page and I would be posting the Strawberry Cheesecake Bracelet to the winner of the Auction, Congratulations to all of you who are now proud owners of a Baiye Original Piece.

Good nighty then.

Birthstones are said to have healing powers, Amethyst the birthstone of February is believed to alleviate migraines and soothe the nervous system. Since purple is also considered to be the colour of creativity, an Amethyst in your workspace is supposed to enhance the creative juices in you. So  I decided to test out this theory and buy myself an Amethyst, the other powers of Amethyst can be found here.

The ancients believed that carrying or wearing the birthstone of a particular month during the month, would boost health and protection. Over time this belief has evolved and today we identify ourselves with birthstones assigned to the months we were born i.e. I was born in September so my birthstone is the lovely blue Sapphire.

I originally bought the piece of natural amethyst above to test the theory of  health, protection and creativity but  changed my mind as I realised I really did not believe in the theory and would therefore be the wrong guinea pig for this test. I’m a Christian so I honestly don’t believe in the theory of Stones having  powers.

So as not to waste this beauty, I wire wrapped it and added a 4mm purple Swarovski bicone, creating gorgeous pendant and I’m going to give it to the winner of the jewellery party raffle.

All attendees of the Jewellery Party that held on the 6th of February, 2012 are eligible to win this beautiful Natural Amethyst Pendant and Chain Necklace.

I’m dead tired but decided to put up a post before I switch off.

First thing this morning I felt like calling the whole thing off, I was sooo scared, I was asking questions like what if no one comes? what if I’m dead bored? Can I handle this? well it turns out …….. I can.

The jewellery party was super fun,I had a really amazing day. I met all sorts of people, talked exchanged ideas and had a blast. I’d like to thank everyone that stopped by today, especially those that didn’t get invites but still showed up regardless.

For a first time event, it was pretty amazing, approximately 20 people showed up, some made custom orders, some purchased jewellery for mothers day while others silently browsed and moved on. We ate, laughed, took pictures and talked, I forgot my Laptop so there was no music *covering face* but there was hardly a dull moment. We even managed to spread some love dust on a couple, I’ll tell the story after Valentines, can’t let the cat out of the bag too early.

We had something called a wish list where everyone picked their most coveted items and got photographed in it. we’ll put up these pictures and anyone may contact me to order the pieces for these beautiful ladies.

Did I tell you guys I’ve enrolled for a silver-smithing course? that is step two of my plan, I’ll give you the details in another blog post.

Right now I’ve come to the end of the start towards making my hobby a business, from here on its a journey.

Here are a few unedited pictures, I would update the full album on Facebook as soon as I can.

Keys of My Heart

I was racking my head for a name for this cute pair of earrings which I really love and the name that popped into my head was ‘Keys of my Heart’, maybe it’s the Valentine air that’s causing me to think in love terms but today I am going to get a little personal.

The common saying is ‘Key to my heart’, this got me to thinking……Do women actually have ‘A’ key to their hearts? Just one key?………………. I really doubt that. I’ve heard it said that women are like Onions…..they have many layers or should I say WE have many layers. Our hearts are more like bullet proof Security doors; you know those ones with the dead lock at the top, the 3 key holes, the slam bolt and lastly the slide chain? It’s more like that.

I think every guy would agree with me when I say it takes so long to scale through all those hurdles and get all those locks open, I cant blame them when they’re triumphant , they can finally say ‘YES! I’ve got the KEYS to her heart’.

Even in simple friendships I know when I say hi, smile and you smile back and we have a conversation, that’s just one bolt I’ve unlocked. You have to work a little harder for me to unlock the bolt of trust, loyalty and a host of other things.
